How long does the class run?
- Adults take a 2 hour musical theatre class each week in term time.
What happens in class?
- Vocal and physical warm up to prepare you for class and loosen yourself into the playfulness of the class experience. Your 2 hour Broadway class is the time to leave your worries at the door and immerse yourself in creativity, joy and play (something quite rare in our usual adult lives!)
- Singing Technique: breathing, pitch, harmony and reading music.
- Dance & Movement: posture, placement, travelling steps & turns.
- Acting Technique: improvisation, scene work, the magical ‘what if?’
- Rehearse repertoire from a variety of classic and contemporary musicals.
Who will be teaching?
Rebecca Perry, Director of Broadway Academy will teach your classes.
Musical Theatre is Rebecca’s absolute passion. She believes theatre opens us up to to the full human experience. Rebecca is all about facilitating delightful moments of magic that connect people deeply and inspire transformations in your life. Get ready – we’re in for a magnificent ride together!
Rebecca trained as a performing arts teacher (BA/B Teach) and has over 25 years of experience teaching, directing, choreographing and performing.
How can I practise at home?
Every performer will be given relevant sheet music/music tracks to rehearse with at home.
What should I wear?
Theatre Blacks. That means plain black clothing in any style you feel comfortable in eg: leggings/shorts/dance pants and a t-shirt/singlet top.
Be sure your clothing is flexible as you’ll be moving a lot.
Jazz shoes or sneakers are worn to assist with floor grip and dance technique.
Shoes and attire can be found at Capezio Mornington or any dance store.
Capezio: 12 – 14 Milgate Drive Mornington. Just mention you are from Broadway Academy and they will know what you need.
Are there any performances?
This will be up to the group. Some adults want to attend classes purely as their regular creative outlet and others are keen to get onstage. Once we begin the year we will chat about our desires as a group and make a decision that makes everyone feel comfortable and happy.
What are the fees?
There is one word that describes our fee payment system – EASY!
All-inclusive, convenient payments ensure you can relax and enjoy your Broadway experience.
